5 Secrets Exposed! #3 and #4: Success and Fraud

December 18th, 2013

Last week I showed you how to reveal secrets #1 and #2 to your business advisor or mentor. You learned the importance of exposing “How much money are you making?” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”

Now, moving on to the next two, we’re going to talk about the truth of what success means to you and the truth of how you might feel like a fraud in your business.

secrets to success

Secret #3) “What specific outcomes would make you feel like a success?”

Success is your “Point B”.  There are three common ways that people fail to reveal the secret of the outcomes they want most to their advisors.  First, there’s what I call “the by-pass,” which is to identify with the part of you that already feels successful and simply say “I’m already a success.”

Of course, that is true.  You are a success.

And you also have within you the human desire to achieve more.  Keep your mind focused on those desires until you can see them form into specific outcomes.

The second way to fail is at the opposite end of the spectrum.  To never allow yourself to be satisfied with an outcome.  I call this the “more plan” because you want more, and the more you get, the more you want.  When someone is on the “more plan” they can’t talk about specific outcomes that will make them feel successful, because as soon as you think of an outcome, you want more!

And the last way you could fail to reveal your “Point B” is by simply being too general.  Outcomes like “financially free” and “having a successful business” are far too general to be useful to your advisors.  To get more specific, you can ask yourself the question, “How will I know when I have that?”  Keep repeating that question, “How will I know when I have that?”  “And how will I know when I have THAT?” until you arrive at a specific “Point B” that your advisors can use to give you targeted advice.

Success is exposing your secrets

Secret #4) “In what ways do you feel like a fraud?”

This may seem like a harsh question, and I don’t mean it to be.  Even the most successful people wake up some mornings and feel like they don’t deserve all that they have, or that somehow they are aren’t providing as much value as they should be.  I’ve certainly had those moments.  But rather than getting too down on myself or believing the voices in my head, I take it as an indication of where I could make improvements in the value we are providing.

If you feel like you’re not really helping people as much as you could, that’s because in your imagination you can think of ways of helping them more.  Follow that thought through and start to incorporate as much as you can into what you do.

Maybe you feel like a fraud when you get negative feedback from a customer, or when you talk about what you’re doing with your family.  How would your product or service have to improve in order to make sure that you didn’t get that feedback (even from people who are being unreasonable)?  How would it have to improve in order to make you feel excited and proud to share what you’re up to with your family?

Follow these cues and make sure your advisors know about them.  They are one important key to how you will begin to create a more and more valuable company.

Next week, we’ll get past the hangups that come with secret #5. But, if you feel so inclined, you can get started battling the first four secrets through my Mind Money Meaning system today. It’s been designed to expose your truths and start building you a scalable business!
