December 25th, 2013

First of all, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas! I hope today is one of family, friends, and loved ones gathered together to laugh and reflect joyfully on the past year.

Now, onto the last of the five secrets you MUST reveal to your business mentor….Secret #5!

Secret #5) “What basic steps have you totally skipped”

Most of us skip steps when we are running our businesses.  Don’t be embarrassed.  You are moving fast, and focusing on what’s most important.  Its not surprising if you skipped a step like not filing a dba for your business name, or not filing taxes on time, or not collecting your customer’s email information all in one place.

You might know a few of the steps you’ve skipped off the top of your head, but you may have skipped some important steps without knowing it. And one of them certainly involves knowing how to increase productivity. Use a checklist from an advisor who knows your industry, or use the Rapid Growth Assessment to make sure you aren’t missing something that’s holding you back from the business growth trajectory you could have now.

Once you know the steps you’ve skipped – share that secret with your advisors.  They can help you tell the difference between an urgent issue that has immediate unseen implications and something that you can let slide until next year.

There’s a direct correlation between the clients who reveal their secrets to us as advisors, and the speed of their implementation and business growth.  Stretch your comfort zone.  Don’t just reveal these secrets to 1 or 2 mentors or advisors.  Go further than that.  If you reveal these secrets to 10 to 20 advisors, you will have a rich set of experiences and opinions to learn from, and the speed you can grow accelerates rapidly.

No entrepreneur has time for regular meetings with 20 advisors, but if you can engage them in a meaningful dialog over email, you can get the benefit of the best advice available in your network, and that’s priceless.

Another Reason to Reveal Your Secrets: Stress

There are other reasons to share your secrets – personal reasons that could have a huge impact on the quality of your life:  Keeping a secret is like maintaining 2 realities, one public reality where the secret does not exist, and one private reality where the secret lives.  Maintaining two separate simultaneous realities is taxing, and according to Brad Blanton who wrote ‘radical honesty’, the leading cause of stress.  Stress, in turn is the leading cause of Heart Disease, Depression and Anxiety, and Gastrointestinal problems improve business reputation

Strive to reveal your secrets to customers, to investors, to employees, to friends, families, and loved ones, but most of all, to advisors to know every aspect of your finances to be prepared with your business and understand paystub deductions so depending on the programs that you sign up for with your employer. If you reveal your secrets to more than just a handful of advisors, you will experience less stress, and the advice you’ll get will put you in the best position possible for rapid business growth, a steep increase in your profits and income, and a business trajectory that will lead to making the kind of impact on the world around you that you most want to make.
